DUBOIS – The DuBois Area School District’s school board was visited by Juniata Elementary School students at their Thursday night meeting saying thank you for the work they do.

All of this is in effort of Katie Wykoff’s Life Skills class, where she is encouraging her students to do good deeds, with the latest having some of her students hand out gift bags to all school board members. Students who succeed in this venture are given paper awards.

In addition, Superintendent Wendy Benton Joined the students in handing out awards of recognition to each board member for School Board Appreciation Month.

Below is the Superintendent’s report on the recognition:

Celebrating School Director Recognition Month: A Tribute to Servant Leadership

Over the past twenty weeks, I have engaged in an in-depth study of leadership as part of my doctoral program at PennWest University. This journey has centered on the very essence of leadership: serving others with purpose and compassion. As I delved into the principles of servant leadership and integrated them into my daily work, I found myself repeatedly drawn to the profound connection between these principles and the servant-hearted commitment exemplified by school directors.

This School Director Recognition Month, we take a moment to express our deepest gratitude to those who dedicate their time, talents, and hearts to the service of our schools, students, and community. Our school directors embody the spirit of servant leadership, a calling that transforms challenges into opportunities and dreams into realities.

George Washington once said, “Every post is honorable in which a man can serve his country.” Your role as a school director exemplifies this truth. Through your unwavering commitment to our students and staff, you demonstrate that serving others is a profound and honorable endeavor.

In your work, you lighten burdens, inspire hope, and create pathways for success. As Benjamin Franklin reminded us, “No one is useless in this world who can lighten the burden of it for someone else.” Your leadership brings light and possibility to countless lives.

Gandhi once said, “The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.” You exemplify this by putting the needs of others first, leading with humility, and working tirelessly to make our schools stronger and more inclusive for everyone.

Albert Schweitzer observed, “I don’t know what your destiny will be, but one thing I do know: the ones among you who will be really happy are those who have sought and found how to serve.” Your happiness shines through your dedication, and it is contagious. You inspire our community to believe in the power of service and the joy it brings.

Finally, Martin Luther King Jr. taught us, “Everybody can be great, because everybody can serve.” Your greatness lies in your selfless commitment to serving the needs of our students and staff, ensuring that our schools remain places of learning, growth, and opportunity for all.

To our school directors: thank you for your servant hearts, your visionary leadership, and your tireless efforts to make a difference. You are the cornerstone of our community, and we are better because of you.
