DuBois/Sandy Lawmakers Deliberate Budget

DUBOIS – Lawmakers in DuBois and Sandy Township met this week to deliberate on the proposed 2026 budget, focusing on ways to balance city needs with financial constraints.

Officials discussed raising utility rates beyond what was previously proposed, aiming to generate an additional $500,000 dollars a year to help complete critical projects.

They also explored rebidding out garbage services for the new city, and considered the possibility of a fee for residents who have access to streetlights, fire hydrants, and stormwater management, although interest seemed limited.

Ultimately this workshop served as a first step for lawmakers to ask questions, weigh priorities, and think on what they can do to balance the budget.

“Please speak your opinion so we all know,“ explained DuBois Mayor Pat Reasinger. “And we’ll come back with some decisions made on this.”

Lawmakers will reconvene next week to continue reviewing the budget and determine priorities.
