DuBois Man Wanted for Theft, Assault, Terroristic Threats

DUBOIS – A DuBois man is wanted for allegedly attacking a Burger King employee in Sandy Township early Tuesday morning.

According to Sandy Township Police, 59-year-old Richard Smeal allegedly attacked the victim in the restaurant’s parking lot and demanded she give him a bag containing the night deposit. When she refused, Smeal reportedly hit the victim in the head with his closed fists and an air-soft gun, causing injuries.

Smeal ran to a nearby getaway car when another vehicle pulled into the parking lot.

Police were able to identify Smeal’s accomplice and the driver of the getaway car as 53-year-old John Lentz Jr., a former employee of Burger King. Lentz was arrested a few hours later at his Penfield home. He is currently being held in the Clearfield County Jail on charges of robbery, theft, and fleeing from police. Bail for Lentz is set at $150,000

Smeal is still at large. He is wanted on pending charges including robbery, theft, assault, and terroristic threats. Smeal is described by police as a Caucasian male, 5-feet 5-inches tall, and weighing approximately 145 pounds. He has blue eyes, a red/gray beard and thinning (possibly longer) red/brown hair. Police also advise that Smeal is dangerous, and is not to be approached. If you have information regarding Smeal’s whereabouts, call 911.
