DUBOIS – City of DuBois officials have addressed concerns following questions about the city’s finances.
City Manager Ben Kafferlin explained that the city is facing a temporary cash flow issue tied to the general fund, but is continuing to pay its bills.
“It’s not like we can’t pay our bills right now. We’re borrowing from other funds, such as the capital reserve fund, to pay general fund expenses until tax revenues come in, and that allows us to avoid taking out loans,” Kafferlin said.
He also explained that the city operates under fund accounting, meaning that restricted funds, like those for fire equipment, cannot be used for everyday expenses.
This strategy ultimately avoids taking out loans, saves on interest, and keeps city services operating normally.
