DUBOIS – A trauma surgeon at Penn Highlands Dubois is being honored for his commitment to the military and community.
Dr. Philip Vuocolo, who served in the military for 14 years, currently works as Trauma Medical Director for Penn Highlands DuBois, and Chief Medical Officer for Penn Highlands Northwest Region.
Now, he has earned the Patriotic Employer Award by supporting his colleagues who are actively serving in the military.
“It’s very special for me,” explained Dr. Vuocolo. “I think that Military Veterans and Active Duty Military have all made sacrifices, they all place their country above themselves and their families. Which is a tremendous sacrifice, and in healthcare sometimes we’re here all kinds of crazy hours and try to put our patients above all else. It’s the same sort of mindframe.”
Penn Highlands DuBois was also given the Seven Seals Award for outstanding leadership and their efforts to support anyone who served in the National Guard and Reserve Force.
Both Dr. Vuocolo and the facility were nominated by Dr. Michelle Mouria, who is both a trauma surgeon with Penn Highlands and a Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Army Reserve Medical Corps.
