DUBOIS – A DuBois couple is facing child endangerment charges after their six-year-old and four-year-old children walked to a nearby convenience store to get food.

According to DuBois City Police, 35-year-old Arden Barber and 29-year-old Ashley Lewis were sleeping when their young children left the house, crossed a busy street, and walked into to the North Brady Street Sheetz at lunchtime.

The four-year-old boy was reportedly naked from the waist down, and was wearing a winter hat and a t-shirt.

Police say the six-year-old girl told officers that their parents were at home, but stated “they were hungry so they were going to get food.”

Barber claimed that they have double locks on their house doors because a similar incident happened before.

The preliminary hearing for Barber and Lewis is scheduled for September 22nd in DuBois.
