DuBois Budget Gains Direction

DUBOIS – DuBois and Sandy Township lawmakers made some headway on the 2026 consolidated DuBois budget.

Moving forward in the budget process, lawmakers would like the redevelopment authority to focus on economic development, and utilize another authority to help offset the costs of parks and recreation activities.

“When you have that sectioned off authority with its own special scope, cities in particular are not allowed to charge specific fees, whereas authorities can,“ explained Manager Ben Kafferlin.

They also agreed on raising funding to the library to 0.5 mills increasing their funding from just over $142,000 dollars a year to over $169,000 dollars.

After incorporating these wants, the city still stands at a $200,000 dollar deficit and roughly $38 million dollars in projected capital expenses over the next decade. Now they need to decide what capital items are needed to calculate what taxes would be needed to balance the budget.
