HARRISBURG — The DuBois Area School District will receive the highest amount possible in a Farm-to-School Grant award.
On Tuesday, the state’s Agriculture Secretary Russell Redding said the DuBois school system will receive a $15,000 grant to help improve access to healthy, local food for students in pre-kindergarten through eighth grade.
Redding praised the Farm-to-School grants as a way to fund projects which connect local farmers to schools by having them supply fresh, in-season products to be served in cafeterias.
Grant money can also be used for school gardens, field trips, and other hands-on agriculture education projects.
