Erie, PA – Has the pandemic forced you to cancel your wedding plans?

Like many other things, wedding ceremonies are another victim of COVID-19 precautions and regulations. It can be hard to plan a wedding when you don’t know what the future holds… what will be open, how many guests can attend, and whether you and your guests can safely celebrate your new married life.

Some tips:

  • Give yourself time to grieve the loss of your traditional wedding. It’s okay to be sad.
  • Remember what the wedding is really about… showing the love between you and your new spouse.
  • Focus on what you can control instead of what you can’t.
  • Make a list of what is most important to you about your wedding day. A few special guests? The perfect dress? A tasty cake? Saying your vows as the sun sets? You might still be able to have those same aspects, even if other things about the ceremony must change.
  • Make a decision… delay or adjust. You might be able to choose a backup day where you are able to celebrate your wedding with fewer restrictions. However, some couples decide to keep their original date and plan with some changes, such as fewer guests, a different venue, or even an online ceremony.
  • In the end, you will still be married to the love of your life. That is what is important.

Bishop Lawrence Persico from the Erie Catholic Diocese has some advice for staying positive when you wedding plans go awry.
