McCalmont Township, PA – A Penfield woman was killed and a teen girl is left with serious injuries after their car struck a tractor-trailer on Route 310 in Jefferson County.
38-year-old Tammy Jo Courteau from Penfield had been driving her Kia Forte around 12:30 p.m. on Thursday on Route 310, just south of Graffis Avenue, in McCalmont Township (between Punxsutawney and Reynoldsville).
As she was driving downhill on a curve, Courteau’s Kia crossed completely over into the opposite lane, striking a Peterbilt tractor-trailer head-on.
Courteau was pronounced dead at the scene. She had not been wearing a seat belt.
Her passenger, a 13-year-old girl, was flown to UPMC Altoona for serious injuries. She had been wearing her seat belt.
The driver of the tractor-trailer, 54-year-old Charles Kennedy from Brockway, had minor injuries but refused treatment at the scene.
Route 310 was closed for a few hours Thursday afternoon as fire crews, EMTs, and police responded.

Big Run Volunteer Fire Company was on standby at Punxsutawney Central Fire Department. Reynoldsville’s Rescue 6 assisted with the landing zone and traffic control and Jefferson County Coroner Brenda Shumaker.
