Consolidation Countdown: Current Status

SHARE NOW

DUBOIS – In less than four months the City of DuBois and Sandy Township will consolidate into one community, as we approach that deadline we are having our Consolidation Countdown, giving you all of the information you need to know.

We spoke with City and Township Manager Ben Kafferlin on how the consolidation process is going and to get a benchmark on where we are at and what still needs to be done.

He explained that various departments, technologies, and various differences have been consolidated. In addition, a preliminary look at the new city’s taxes could raise the bar for current Sandy Township residents.

“The Township goes away, the City goes away, it’s a new city,“ explained Kafferlin. “We can’t have different districts. Everybody has to pay the same millage rate.”

While we still have a ways to go, Kafferlin welcomes the unity between municipalities and hopes it extends to the community.

Consolidation will take hold at the beginning of the new year.
