Consolidation Boosting the Economy

DUBOIS – Consolidation of the city of DuBois and Sandy Township is right around the corner, we look at how this change affects you.

Consolidation has been a lengthy process for officials in the City of DuBois and Sandy Township, with a lot more to be done.

There have been multiple committees dedicated to making the transition to one municipality as smooth as possible.

Some places, like the Police and Fire departments have already faded the border between the separate units.

Trouble comes with the Department of Public Works, where getting two separate unions to work together has been difficult.

On the bright side, local leaders believe consolidation will provide a larger labor force, leading to a more hands on approach for construction projects.

The biggest upside according to Township/City Manager Shawn Arbaugh will be the economic growth that will come with consolidation.

“We’ve had several coffee companies that are building businesses in town,“ explained Arbaugh. “We have this new charter school going in, that’s going to create some jobs for the area. A lot of excitement right now with consolidation, and we are seeing it with the economic development area.”

The next big date is February 2025 where ordinances and policies must be in place.
