DUBOIS/SANDY TOWNSHIP –  In 2025 you will be able to elect at least six members of the newly consolidated DuBois City Council, but the question remains: how will the new Mayor’s position be elected.

Currently the City of DuBois uses a public election system, however it was brought up at the last consolidation meeting whether or not the mayor should be on the ballot.

According to Interim Manager Ben Kafferlin, a decision must be made soon.

“The consolidation agreement that they passed says that the Mayor will be elected independently,“ explained Kafferlin. “But I’ve gotten the sense from talking to the city and the township board members that they would prefer to select the Mayor from the council. And that’s perfectly acceptable, they just need to amend their agreement.”

With this election, the bottom three finishers will serve two year terms, with the rest serving for four years.

In the end, the consolidation board must get their decision to the election board by the new year.
