Harrisburg, PA – The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission (PTC) is alerting motorists that cash will not be accepted at any interchange statewide beginning Monday, March 16 at 8 p.m. This is a temporary safety measure to keep travelers moving with no need to stop at tollbooths or interact with tolling personnel during the COVID-19 pandemic.
During this time, cash and credit cards will not be accepted anywhere on the PA Turnpike’s ticket system. All tolls will be assessed electronically via E-ZPass or the PA Turnpike TOLL BY PLATE program as vehicles travel at posted speed limits through tolling points.

Harrisburg, PA – All K-12 schools in Pennsylvania will be closed for two weeks to try to slow the spread of the novel coronavirus, COVID-19, starting Monday, March 16.
Schools have been closed indefinitely and will only return once it has been deemed safe by the state government.
Gov. Tom Wolf has confirmed that no Pennsylvania school district will be penalized if it fails to meet the 180 day or school hours requirements.
The PA Department of Education says that students in Pennsylvania will still be served meals even if schools are closed. Families will not have to worry if they depend on the school to feed their child lunch.

DuBois, PA – All preschools or prekindergarten classes affiliated with school district have closed, along with the schools. Other preschools have also decided to close, including Mother’s Day Out Preschool in DuBois.
If you have questions, check with your specific daycare provider or preschool to see if they are open. You can also check the official PA Childcare website to search for childcare facilities that have been issued a waiver to stay open HERE.

State College, PA – Penn State University says that no in-person classes will be held on any of the campuses as the novel coronavirus continues to spread. Classes will still continue online.
The closure/online classes will be extended until the end of the spring semester. Spring commencement ceremony plans are postponed. Students must have University approval before accessing on-campus residences.

Dubois, PA – Spamalot auditions have been postponed at the Reitz Theater in DuBois. They were originally scheduled for April 5 and 6. Due to the uncertainly of current events, and how it will impact the remainder of our 2020 season, auditions for Spamalot scheduled for the beginning of April are postponed until further notice. More information on upcoming show schedule changes will be released as they determined. Thank you for your understanding during this time. A further reminder that the Reitz Theater office is officially closed to the public until further notice. Email, postal mail, phone calls and social media messages will all continue to be monitored. DuBois, PA – The Senior Scholastic Challenge has been postponed in an effort to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Carol Foltz, the event organizer, is working to reschedule the event.
All Penn State classes are being taught remotely at least through April 6th and events are either canceled or being rescheduled. Penn State DuBois campus remains open and faculty and staff are working diligently to continue serve our students and communities.

This is due to recommendations from the PA Department of Health and CDC as a precaution against the novel coronavirus, COVID-19. No cases have been identified in any of our local nursing homes, but the virus is known to be more dangerous to elderly people or those with weakened immune systems.

Harrisburg, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that expiration dates for driver licenses, identification cards, learner’s permits, persons with disability placards, vehicle registrations and safety and emission inspections will be extended for Pennsylvania residents in response to statewide COVID-19 mitigation efforts.
Deadlines on the following products will be extended effective March 27, 2020:
Driver licenses, photo ID cards and learner’s permits scheduled to expire from March 16, 2020 through April 30, 2020, the expiration date is now extended through May 31, 2020.
Vehicle registrations, safety inspections and emissions inspections scheduled to expire from March 16 through April 30, 2020, the expiration date is now extended through May 31, 2020.
Persons with Disabilities parking placards scheduled to expire from March 16 through April 30, 2020, the expiration date is now extended through May 31, 2020.
These extensions are in addition to those announced on March 16.
Additionally, all Driver License Centers and Photo License Centers and the Harrisburg Riverfront Office Center in Pennsylvania are closed for counter service until further notice effective close of business on Monday, March 16
As a reminder, customers may complete various transactions and access multiple resources via the Driver and Vehicle Services website, www.dmv.pa.gov. Driver and vehicle online services are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week and include driver’s license, photo ID and vehicle registration renewals; driver-history services; changes of address; driver license and vehicle registration restoration letters; ability to pay driver license or vehicle insurance restoration fee; driver license and photo ID duplicates; and driver exam scheduling. There are no additional fees for using online services.

DuBois, PA – Penn Highlands Jefferson Manor in Brookville and Penn Highlands Elk Pinecrest Manor in St. Marys, both a part of Penn Highlands Healthcare, are restricting visitors, as per the Centers for Disease Control’s recommendations for long-term care facilities.
This means no visitors are allowed unless there are emergency circumstances approved by nursing home administration. These restrictions are in place to protect residents and staff.
Also, Penn Highlands Neonatal Intensive Care Unit is limiting visitors to the babies’ parents. This will protect the littlest patients, families and staff.

Clearfield County, PA – The Clearfield County Area Agency on Aging has announced that the Coalport, Mahaffey, Kylertown and Clearfield Centers for Active Living; Clearfield County are closed in adoption of aggressive social distancing measures to mitigate the risk for older adults of contracting COVID-19.

Jefferson County, PA – Libraries statewide are closed due to the coronavirus concerns. Library officials remind patrons that libraries have online resources that will still be available during the shutdown.
Most libraries have e-books available through their websites. For example, the Jefferson County Library System has four online resources, two of which lend e-books of both nonfiction titles and popular fiction titles. Patrons have to go to www.jeffcolibraries.org to find the collection.

The DuBois Little League has effectively canceled the current tryout schedule for the upcoming season. See their message at DuBoisLittleLeague.com.
The PIAA made the decision to suspend any and all PIAA playoff games for high school swimming/diving and basketball. No rescheduled dates have been posted.
The Premiere Basketball League has suspended all league games and operations indefinitely. This results in the DuBois Dream games scheduled for this weekend being suspended.
As for the MLB and NHL, both leagues have suspended games. Pirates Opening Day has been pushed back. Penguins games are all postponed until further notice.

DuBois, PA – The WPAL Golden Gloves boxing event that was scheduled to be held on March 21 has been postponed. It will be rescheduled for a later date.
A statement from USA Boxing: “In light of recent developments with the Coronavirus (COVID-19) and after extensive consultation with the USOPC (United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee), medical experts, legal counsel and Board of Directors President Chair, Tyson Lee, USA Boxing is suspending all sanctioned events through March 31st. This is a very difficult decision given we are in the midst of Golden Gloves tournaments and entering the qualification timeframe for the 2020 Junior Olympics; however USA Boxing’s greatest concern is for the health and safety of all boxers, coaches, officials and physicians. USA Boxing will review as circumstances evolve and more information becomes available and provide an update to membership by the end of March.”
