Lawrence Township, PA – A Clearfield County woman was scammed out of $91,000 when a scam artist called her, pretending to be from a law enforcement agency.

The 71-year-old woman from Clearfield told Lawrence Township Police that she sent thousands of dollars to someone who called her, pretended to be a police officer, and threatened that she would face charges if she didn’t pay.

Police – the real police – are still investigating this case.

Remember, under no circumstances will you ever be called by police at home and threatened or asked to pay money immediately.

Even if you do have a warrant or owe fines, police will never call and ask for your financial information.

If someone is demanding your personal or financial information, hang up. It’s a scam.

If you get a phone call like that, write down their phone number, hang up, and then look up the real number for your local police department and call them to report it.
