CLEARFIELD — A judge recently ruled that due to public safety concerns, the Borough of Clearfield must temporarily retain its contract with the Clearfield Regional Police Department.
The Police Commission and Lawrence Township had filed a lawsuit against the borough’s attempt to terminate its agreement with the regional department at the end of the year.
The Clearfield Regional Police Commission Solicitor, Daniel Nelson, said, “Stopping and ceasing a Police Department at the stroke of midnight on New Year’s Eve, with no contingency plans … would have had a lot of repercussions that we really had no idea how that was going to work.”
Clearfield County District Attorney Ryan Sayers testified against Clearfield Borough during the hearing, supporting the township’s request to maintain the Police Department contract.
The decision keeps the current agreement in effect until the borough and the department can determine a way to move forward.
