DUBOIS — Today is designated the “Great American Smokeout.”

The Clearfield-Jefferson Drug and Alcohol Commission is teamed with the American Cancer Society for this annual event to encourage those who smoke to commit to making a plan to quit, and to lead healthy, smoke-free lives.

The ACS notes that approximately 34-million Americans still smoke, and that it causes an estimated 480,000 preventable deaths every year.

Many tools are available to help smokers quit, and information and local resources are provided through the Clearfield-Jefferson Drug and Alcohol Commission.
