Lawrence Township, PA – Two people are being charged for the alleged child abuse of a 6-month-old baby near Clearfield.

33-year-old Andre Sheffey and 34-year-old Savannah Grove, both from Clearfield, are facing charges from Lawrence Township Police.

Sheffey had taken the baby to Penn Highlands Clearfield on Oct. 23. The boy was reportedly blue and cold to the touch, was having seizures, and was “critically ill”.

The baby was flown to UPMC Children’s Hospital.

Although Sheffey had told medical staff that the baby had fallen off of the couch and struck his head, it was quickly found through medical examination that the baby had other injuries that were not the result of a one-time fall but rather from physical abuse and head trauma.

The 6-month-old baby had multiple leg fractures that were in various stages of healing, a healed upper frenulum injury, a brain bleed, and retinal hemorrhages in the right eye.

Investigation revealed the abuse likely began in August, two months earlier.

Grove, the mother, reportedly never had taken the baby for any treatment of multiple injuries. She had also left him and three other children in the care of Sheffey.

Grove and Sheffey also reportedly tampered with physical evidence of the abuse. Grove allegedly attempted to intimidate a child witness during the investigation.

Sheffey is being charged with five counts each of felony aggravated assault and endangering the welfare of children. He also faces five misdemeanor counts of recklessly endangering another person and other crimes.

Grove faces five felony counts of endangering the welfare of children and intimidating a witness or victim, plus 10 misdemeanors for tampering with evidence. She also faces charges of intimidating a person to give false or misleading information, obstruction, and recklessly endangering another person.

Both Sheffey and Grove remain in the Clearfield County Jail on $100,000 bail.
