CLEARFIELD – A 78-year-old Clearfield County woman who admitted to stealing more than $14,000 from a church, will serve no more than one year of jail time.

According to court documents, Dorothy Lowe of Hawk Run was the treasurer of St. Laurence Church in Osceola Mills when she allegedly wrote checks to herself and made cash withdrawals more than 30 times using the church debit card.

Lowe’s attorney claimed that she took the money in order to help her son.

The church’s chief financial officer asked that Lowe pay restitution, but did not want her to serve any time in jail.

On Tuesday, Judge Fredric Ammerman sentenced Lowe to 60 days to one year in jail, with three years of probation.

Lowe admitted to investigators that she stole a total of $14,603 in 2022.
