Clearfield County Salary Board approves creation of new lieutenant position

CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield County Jail Warden David Gallagher says the creation of a new lieutenant position will help fill the need for crucial leadership.

The Clearfield County Salary Board approved the creation of the position Tuesday.

Gallagher reported that the new lieutenant will oversee the second shift at the jail and will be responsible for the scheduling and training of guards.

County Commissioner John Sobel voted “no” on creating the new position, citing the fact that the jail’s operation has become awfully expensive with the expansion of inmate medical services and possible expansion of inmate mental health services.

Sobel said, “I think it’s just too much to ask of our taxpayers.”
