Clearfield County receives grant money to help with Montgomery Creek cleanup

HARRISBURG –Clearfield County will receive more than $200,000 in grant funding from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection to help treat and clean acid mine discharges into Montgomery Creek in Pike Township.

The local grant was part of a $3 million statewide package going to local governments and organizations for projects intended to reduce water pollution and restore the health of watersheds.

The Clearfield County Conservation District will use the grant money for the first phase of a two-phase acid mine discharge project for Montgomery Creek. If successful, the completed project will remove 73% of acid mine discharges.
