CLEARFIELD – David Kessling, the warden of the Clearfield County Jail, has submitted his resignation.

The announcement was made at Tuesday’s Prison Board meeting. Kessling’s resignation will be effective September 30th. While no specific reason was given for Kessling’s decision, he did say at the meeting that he has been doing this type of work for over 30 years and he is starting to get tired.

There have been several challenging issues at the jail the past few months with two inmates escaping, employees calling off in protest over pay and benefits, as well as an assault and a suicide.

In his resignation letter, Kessling wrote about his achievements of leading the facility to being under budget the past two years and implementing psychiatric treatment for mentally ill inmates.
