Clearfield County facing ongoing labor issues and staffing shortages

SHARE NOW

Clearfield – The Clearfield County Commissioners talked about ongoing labor issues and recent staffing shortages following their regular meeting Tuesday.

The Clearfield County Jail had a lockdown on June 16th and 17th due to a high number of corrections officers calling off sick, and then Monday and Tuesday the courthouse and annex offices were hit hard by a high number of call-offs.

It is speculated that the calloffs and resulting staffing shortages are linked to the ongoing contract dispute between the county and county employees.

Commissioner David Glass said he would like to “sit down and make a deal,” but the Teamsters’ bargaining units have walked away from negotiations with four contract agreements needing to be resolved.

Arbitration hearings are scheduled for late July.
