DUBOIS – The City of DuBois has to open a new payroll account at S&T Bank after fraudulent activity was detected on their current account.
City/Township Manager Shawn Arbaugh announced this during the Monday Night City Council meeting.
He said a yet to be identified individual recently used the city’s account to write a total of 13 low amount checks to different recipients.
Other items of note from the meeting are below.
The council stated their intent to look at increasing the yearly fee on games of skill. including the games of chance that have sprung up in the City of DuBois.
At current count, according to Zoning and Code Enforcement Officer Zac Lawhead, there are 75 games of skill within DuBois if you count the machines in bars and clubs. There are 15-20 places dedicated to the machines.
Currently, it only costs $100 per machine per year to operate a skill machine within city limits. The Council would like to explore increasing that amount to $1,000 per machine per year.
There were concerns on whether bars and clubs could be exempted or not from this price increase if it goes through.
The council voted unanimously to rescind the vote to approve the new employee handbook.
The now former handbook was admittedly voted into service without getting input from either the union or non-union employees.
Currently the city has gotten input and questions from the non-union employees. And is waiting to hear from the union employees.
The council heard from Downtown DuBois Executive Director Shirley Dahrouge, where she announced the annual “Grapes and Hops Event” will be on Sept 21 from 4 pm to 8 pm. an hour longer than last year. There will also be more participating locations.
The city council also wanted to remind the public that all invoices are available for public viewing on their website.
