RIDGWAY – The Citizens Against Physical, Sexual, and Emotional Abuse non-profit group, better known as CAPSEA, in Elk County has launched a new fundraiser.
CAPSEA’s director says the success of the “Leave the Lights On” fundraiser is crucial to supporting the organization’s emergency shelter which is open to victims of sexual assault, domestic violence, and other serious crimes in Elk County.
The CAPSEA shelter was founded more than 40 years ago, and is used by nearly 100 victims and their families each year.
A recent sharp downturn in donations as well as an inflation-driven spike in expenses has driven the new fundraising effort.
CAPSEA Executive Director Billie Joe Weyant said the shelter is a life-saving arm, and “if we lose that tomorrow, …it’ll be devastating.”
