Car accident leads DuBois man to be charged with child endangerment

DuBois – Charges of aggravated assault by vehicle and endangering the welfare of children have been filed against a DuBois man following an accident that injured his daughter.

State Police say 46-year-old Barry Altemus and his daughter were returning home from a fishing trip in a pickup truck that had an expired inspection sticker, no brake assembly on one of the wheels, and a vice grip clamped onto one of the brake lines.

As Altemus was driving the truck, it lost its brakes and crashed into a tree along Route 219 in Bloom Township.

The daughter suffered a broken nose and broken foot as a result of the crash.

Altemus also faces charges of DUI and possession of methamphetamine.

His preliminary hearing is scheduled for November 4th.
