HomeCrimeBrookville man loses $1,500 to Facebook gift card scamBrookville man loses $1,500 to Facebook gift card scamMon, February 7, 2022 by Brittany MaderaSHARE NOW Warsaw Township, PA – A Brookville man lost $1,500 to a scam by sending gift cards to someone who told him he could get up to $50,000 in return.The 62-year-old man says he believed he was going to receive money through a “Zoom Grant” for $50,000 from a Facebook ad.He purchased a Sephora e-gift card for $1,000 and a Vanilla Visa gift card for $500 between Feb. 1 and 4 and gave the information to the scam artist.Police say scammers specifically ask for gift cards because it’s nearly impossible for the victim to get the money back afterwards. If someone asks you to pay them in gift cards, be suspicious because it’s likely a scam.Click Here to read the online police report.
