Brookville man jailed on felony charges from police standoff in June

BROOKVILLE – A Brookville man is in the Jefferson County Jail on felony aggravated assault charges following an hour-long stand-off with police in Brookville.

Police were called to Euclid Avenue in Brookville on June 18th where they encountered 42-year-old Matthew Johnson who had a handgun and was threatening suicide as well as threatening to shoot the police officers.

Eventually, Johnson gave up the gun and surrendered to police.

He was taken immediately for psychiatric treatment, but then was arraigned on two felony charges and three misdemeanors on June 24th.

Johnson’s bail was set at $50,000 while he still awaits a preliminary hearing.
