Brockway, PA – The Brockway Area School District capped off the Be The Light Event at Varischetti Field with a social distancing photo shoot.

Using the football field, the school district was able to take pictures of seniors in front of the scoreboard, which read 2020. The seniors stayed away from each other and the photographer, Tracey Dusch, who is retiring at the end of this school year.

High School Principal Brian Mulhollan said that the district heard that students were planning on coming by the football field while the lights and scoreboard were on. The district decided to get involved and make sure the event was organized and everyone maintained the social distancing guidelines.

Large groups were not allowed to enter the field and the students stayed in their cars until told to go in for the picture. Dusch will upload the pictures, so no phones exchanged hands. Some seniors even wore their masks to commemorate the quarantine.

Brockway senior Sylvia Pisarchick was one of the first to post the message online. She said that social media is a big part of their lives, but the quarantine has made it an even bigger part.

The district is still looking into rescheduling end-of-year events when quarantine is lifted, but Superintendent Jeff Vizza said that this gave an opportunity for the district to honor its seniors.
