Brockway School Asbestos Concerns

BROCKWAY – With one week remaining, the Brockway Area School Board met Tuesday to discuss and approve some final agenda items, before hundreds of students to fill the halls.

One member of the public came to the school board meeting addressing concerns related to the asbestos found in Brockway’s water supply.

He proposed that the school should invest in a water filtration system to extract the microscopic material.

At this time it is unknown what the cost of a filtration system would be, however, the school board did discuss the topic beforehand and agree that it is an important issue. 

Other items of note include the purchase of a stadium sound system for the district has increased in price by $1,100, the new and improved audio however, will not be installed in time for the school’s first game.

The School also approved a new HUDL Athletic Department Package to allow streaming services of their games.

Meet the teacher day for kindergarteners has been changed to Monday August 19th from 2:30 to 3:30. At the same time, the Elementary meet the teacher open house will be held for 1st through 6th graders from 4PM to 6PM.

7th grade orientation was held on August 8th, for any who missed the event are urged to contact the High School main office to schedule a visit.

Fall sports started on Monday August 12th.

A field trip to plant yourself in Ag Day workshop was approved for a total cost of $120 dollars plus the use of the school van.

A total of $702 dollars will be used for two School Psychologist and Special Education Contract Meetings.

Services by THR Concrete Grinding was approved for $1,638 dollars

Superintendent Brian Mulhollan congratulated 11 students who raised livestock for the Jefferson County Fair making $37,239.65 by selling their animals.
