BROCKWAY — Morelli’s Family Restaurant in Brockway will be closing its doors permanently at the end of the month, bringing a nearly 40-year dining tradition to a close.
While not giving a specific reason for the family’s decision to close, Darren Morelli said he and his brother Fran began discussing the possibility of closing more than three years ago when their father retired, and because of changes in the restaurant industry.
The business along Route 219 first opened as Cindy’s Restaurant in the late 1970s, became the Straightlight Restaurant in the early 1980’s, and then it was purchased by the Morelli family in 1984 and was renamed Burger Shack.
Darren Morelli said the decision to close was not made quickly or easily. Morelli noted, “You develop family with the customers. You know, it’s hard. It really comes hard after 39 and a half years.”
