Brockway, PA – Sports coaches in the Brockway Area School District are getting a raise.
The Brockway School Board met Tuesday and approved raises of $150 for head coaches, $100 for assistant and junior high coaches, and $50 for elementary coaches. The board also re-hired two wrestling assistant coaches and brought on various volunteer assistant coaches.
Superintendent Jeff Vizza brought the board up to date on a survey sent out by the high school to see what the needs of the community were in the event of shut down. This lead to rumors in the school, so Vizza directly addressed them.
The district is also working with Riverview Intermediate Unit 6 for social services to be provided to Brockway students in the elementary and high schools. The service will be paid through CARES money, and Vizza said that it will allow the district to better meet the students’ needs.
Two Brockway teachers, Don Allenbaugh and Josh Lindemuth, were honored for their work with College Board to help score AP exams. College Board said that the unprecedented situation made their contributions all the more important and sent letters praising the teachers.
Finally, Vizza told the board that the first marking period is almost over, and since the district wants to be in school for 180 days, the whole community needs to stay focused on implementing the district’s safety plan to help keep the schools healthy.
The Brockway School Board will meet again November 10 at 7 p.m.
