SHARE NOW

DUBOIS – A Brockway man is going to spend up to a year and a half behind bars after police say his small children walked to Sheetz unsupervised looking for food.

DuBois City Police were called to a Sheetz on North Brady Street to check on two small children. When asked where their parents were, the six year-old girl told police they were hungry so they were going to get food.

The other child, a four year-old boy, was naked from the waist down, wearing only a winter hat and a t-shirt.

The father, 36 year-old Arden Barber, told police that he and his wife, 30 year-old Ashley Lee Lewis Barber, were sleeping while the children were on their tablets

He also told police the children kept them awake until 5am that morning and that there were double locks on the doors since it had happened before.

Both parents were charged with a felony count of endangering the welfare of a child as well as a misdemeanor count of endangering the welfare of a child in connection with a different incident

Arden Barber pleaded guilty to only the misdemeanor charge on Monday, and was sentenced to serve between six to 18 months in jail with a concurrent three years probation.

Ashley Barber also pleaded guilty to the same charge in July when she was sentenced to complete three years probation.
