Brockway, PA – The Brockway Area School Board held a virtual meeting on Tuesday, approving the continuation of lessons for students until June 5.
The board approved the plan, which offers online and packet work to students in the district. The June 5 date is now Brockway’s official last day of school. Graduation will be June 4.
The district added Lauren Judge as a school psychologist starting in the next school year. It also approved the purchase of new football uniforms, a new convection oven, and radios for bus drivers.
The last two items were paid for by grant money. However, the district also approved taking out a $1 million loan for work on sports fields.
Superintendent Jeff Vizza said that the district is adapting well to the COVID-19 shutdown.
The next board meeting is May 12 at 7 p.m. If the stay-at-home order is continued, that meeting will also be conducted virtually by Google Hangouts.

Brockway, PA – Also, tonight (Wednesday) in Brockway from 8 until 9:30 p.m., Brockway Area School District will be burning the stadium lights for the class of 2020 and the students of Brockway School District.
According to Peter Grecco, the athletic director, they are lighting up the stadium as a symbol of hope and an assurance that students are in their hearts and minds.
They’re calling it the Be The Light Challenge.
If you see the stadium lights on, please be aware that no game is being played. It is a symbolic gesture for the students of Brockway.
If you would like to show your support too and live in Brockway, you can also turn on your house’s porchlight to celebrate the Be The Light Challenge.
