Brockway, PA – Acknowledging the difficulties facing events for Memorial Day and the Fourth of July, the Brockway Borough Council is asking its solicitor to draw up a resolution closing Taylor Memorial Park until further notice.
The council said that they will follow all state guidelines surrounding public gatherings and social distancing during the COVID-19 pandemic. To that end, the resolution will state that the park is closed to events until such time as the governor says that parks can reopen.
Council President Chris “Smoke” Benson pointed out that this closure does not only impact the town’s annual Fourth of July celebration, but Memorial Day services and, potentially, the Awaken Concert, Family Day, and the Summer Concert Series.
Benson said, “What we are doing is what we feel is best to protect everyone. The safety of our citizens, emergency service personnel, and borough employees comes first.”
Benson said the borough will update the community as new information becomes available.
