
HARRISBURG – Black bear hunting season in Pennsylvania is continuing to grow in popularity.
The Pennsylvania Game Commission reports a harvest of 2,920 bears last year. There were more than 206,000 hunters registered in the Commonwealth for the 2023 season, making it the fifth straight year that bear license sales exceeded 200,000.
The Game Commission also reports that 58 of the state’s 67 counties had at least one bear harvested.
In the Tri-County area, 90 bears were taken in Elk County, 72 in Clearfield County, and the harvest was 50 in Jefferson County.
There were six bears heavier than 600-pounds harvested in Pennsylvania last year, with the largest reported to be 691 pounds.
