Clearfield, PA – A journey of 500 miles ends today as 79-year-old John Farr from Habitat for Humanity makes his return trip into DuBois tonight, raising money for building houses here in our community.
Applicants are chosen based on whether the home being built would make sense for The family put in much more than the 500 required volunteer hours to build their house, called “sweat equity” hours, as part of the agreement for becoming the proud new homeowners.
It’s a common misconception that this is a free home for families… Habitat for Humanity calls it a hand up, not a hand out. The family will still have a mortgage, although it’s interest-free, and the organization works to make sure it’s reasonable and affordable.
Last year John Farr raised $18,000, and he’s hoping to do better than that this year. That’s about ¼ the cost of building a Habitat for humanity home.

Bike2Build is an exciting event that is tracking 79 years young, John Farr’s journey across 500 miles as he seeks to raise support for the cause of building hope through building homes. Hosted by the Habitat for Humanity of Clearfield County, the Bike2Build event helps to support local families in the Clearfield County area who are seeking help with obtaining affordable housing. Each year John Farr sets out from Dubois, PA and cycles to a different destination to inspire financial partners with the vision of seeing people’s lives changed through Habitat for Humanity’s work.
This year’s event features the president of the Habitat for Humanity of Clearfield County, John Farr cycling each day from Dubois, PA to various local communities over 8 days. Each day John will cycle approximately 60 miles sharing insights from his trip at the end of each day. Supporters will be able to tune in each day and track John live, as he Bikes to raise funds to build homes for those in need.

Friday September 11, 2020 (65 Miles) Dubois to Cresson to the Horseshoe Curve Visitor Center.
Saturday September 12, 2020 (65 Miles) State College to Dubois accompanied with John’s son.
Sunday September 13, 2020 (72 Miles) Dubois to Driftwood to the Elk Center on Mountain Bike.
Monday September 14, 2020 (75 Miles) Redbank Rail Trail starting in Brookville with John Dillion accompanying.
Tuesday September 15, 2020 REST DAY
Wednesday September 16, 2020 (75 Miles) Dubois to Brockway to Portland Mills to Cooksburg and back to Clear Creek State Park.
Thursday September 17, 2020 (80 Miles) Dubois to Brockway to Ridgeway to Saint Mary’s to Emporium.
Friday September 18, 2020 (76 miles) Loop Dubois back to Dubois accompanied with Jim D.
