Big Run, PA – A Big Run woman lost $600 in gift cards to a scam artist who she believed was a TicketMaster customer service representative.

The victim, a 29-year-old woman from Big Run, told police that she had been attempting to get a refund from TicketMaster and contacted who she believed to be the company’s customer service.

The supposed “customer service agent” requested that the woman buy three $200 gift cards so the refund could be uploaded onto them.

The victim purchased a Lowe’s gift card for $200 and two Google Play gift cards worth a combined $400, for a total of $600 as she was asked to do.

She then provided the “customer service agent” with the information from the gift cards, and they immediately transferred the funds from the cards, putting the victim at a loss of $600.

Police remind you that legitimate companies will never ask you to pay specifically in gift cards. The scam artists do so because gift cards are difficult to track and return your money. If you have any questions about whether something is a scam, call your local police and ask for their advice.
