DUBOIS – The unified City of DuBois officially began operations Monday with a swearing-in ceremony at the Reitz Theater, marking the consolidation of the former city and Sandy Township.
Judge Paul E. Cherry administered oaths of office to the new council, administration, city officers, and Fire Chief, officially launching the new government.
Council later selected Barry Abbott as the first mayor of the newly formed City of DuBois with Shirley Dahrouge acting as Vice Mayor.
“Go boldly into the future, and that is where we’re headed,” stated Mayor Abbott.
Abbot will preside over council as the new City of DuBois takes shape.
