DuBois, PA – Newly elected Sandy Township supervisor Barry Abbott, who is also part of the group that initiated the citizens’ petition that led to the consolidation of Sandy Township and the City of DuBois, says he’s thrilled to see the new third-class city take shape over the next several years.
Abbott also says, however, it’ll take a lot of work and cooperation.
Unofficial results show that during Tuesday’s election, residents of the City of DuBois and Sandy Township voted in favor of consolidation, about 57 percent in favor to 43 percent against.
Now that’s it’s voted in, the plans must begin immediately to make the deadline to have some kind of agreement and framework for the consolidated city within a year of the election.
It will take about three to five years to see a lot of the changes come to fruition and perhaps several years to see the long-term picture come together.
