16-year-old boy seriously injured in Elk County crash

Fox Township, PA – A teen boy is left with serious injuries after a crash in Elk County.

A 16-year-old boy from Johnsonburg had been driving a Ford Escape on the Million Dollar Highway in Fox Township around 4:25 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 19.

The teen is not being named because he is under the age of 18.

He was attempting to turn left at the intersection of Route 948 and Route 255/Million Dollar Highway.

The teen began turning and failed to yield the right of way to an oncoming vehicle, a Ford F-150 XLT driven by 18-year-old Trevor Ginther from Weedville.

The two vehicles colliding, causing disabling damage to both vehicles.

The 16-year-old boy was taken by ambulance to Penn Highlands Elk and then flown by LifeFlight to UPMC Altoona after sustaining serious injuries from the crash. He had been wearing a seat belt.

The teen’s passenger, 35-year-old Maria Cummings from Johnsonburg, had minor head injuries and was taken to Penn Highlands Elk. She had not been wearing a seat belt.

Ginther, the driver of the other vehicle, was not injured. He had been wearing his seat belt.
