Pittsburgh Pirates:
The Pittsburgh Pirates claimed the series, two games to one, over the Toronto Blue Jays at PNC Park Wednesday afternoon. The Pirates beat Toronto, 2-1.
The Bucs get a break … a day off today. The Colorado Rockies are coming to the ‘Burgh for a three-game weekend series. Friday night, the Pirates-Rockies pregame show starts at 6:15 on Connect FM. The first pitch is scheduled for 6:40.
Altoona Curve:
The Pirates’ Double-A affiliate Altoona Curve lost to Reading last night, 7-1. The Curve will match up with the Fightin’ Phils for game three of the series at PNG Field in Altoona tonight at 6pm.
Pittsburgh Steelers:
The Pittsburgh Steelers’ third and final preseason game is this evening. The Steelers will take on the Carolina Panthers at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina. Kickoff is set for 7pm. Pittsburgh begins the regular season schedule on the road on Sunday, September 7th. The New York Jets are the Steelers’ first opponent.
District 9 High School Football:
District 9 High School Football teams begin their regular season tomorrow night. The season opens for our Tri-County area teams in Brookville, where the Raiders will host Keystone, Clearfield is hosting Bellwood-Antis, Curwensville travels to Meyersdale, Karns City will visit St. Marys, and Ridgway plays at Redbank Valley. On Saturday, there will be two more games for District 9 teams. The Brockway Rovers will take on the Chucks in Punxsutawney at 6pm. Listen to live coverage of Rovers football on Sunny 106, and watch at Tri County dot TV. Also, the DuBois Beavers host General McLane at Mansell Stadium on Saturday afternoon with a 1pm kickoff.
