Local Sports Update – Thursday, 4/2

District 9 Baseball and Softball:

WEDNESDAY-BASEBALL

DuBois 5, Punxsutawney 0 – Trey Wingard smacked three hits, including a pair of doubles, for the Beavers.

DuBois Central Catholic 8, Brockway 4 – Brayden Zatsick lead the DCC offense with three hits, two runs scored, and an RBI.

DuBois Central Catholic 4, Brockway 3 – Cardinals pitcher Carter Himes struck out 13 Rovers, and he exceeded the 200 strikeouts mark for his high school career.

The Elk County Catholic at Brookville, Philipsburg-Osceola at Clearfield, Curwensville at Harmony, and St. Marys at Bradford games were postponed due to the weather.

WEDNESDAY-SOFTBALL

The DuBois Central Catholic at Brockway double-header, as well as the Brookville at Elk County Catholic, Clearfield at Philipsburg-Osceola, and Bradford at St. Marys games were all postponed due to the weather.

Penn State-DuBois Baseball and Softball:

The Penn State-DuBois baseball team is scheduled for a double-header at Penn State-New Kensington on Friday.

Also on Friday, the Penn State-DuBois softball team will be hosting Penn State-Hazleton for a pair of games at Heindl Field in DuBois.

Pittsburgh Pirates:

The Pirates claimed a series win over Cincinnati Wednesday. The Bucs downed the Reds 8-3 for the second consecutive day.

The Pirates are off today. They open their first home series of the season Friday afternoon against the Baltimore Orioles. The first pitch will be at 4:12pm. Listen for the start of the Bucs pregame show on Connect FM at 3:45 Friday afternoon.

Altoona Curve:

The Pirates’ double-A affiliate, Altoona Curve, open the 2026 season at home with a three-game series against the Harrisburg Senators. Game one of the series is tonight at PNG Field. The first pitch is scheduled for 6pm.

Pittsburgh Penguins:

The Pittsburgh Penguins begin April with a hold on second place in the NHL’s Metropolitan Division. The Pens are currently three points ahead of the New York Islanders. Tonight, the Penguins face the Lightning in Tampa Bay. The Pens-Bolts pregame show begins at 6, and the opening puck drop is scheduled for 7 this evening … on Connect FM.
