District 9 / PIAA Baseball and Softball Playoffs:
Four District 9 teams will play in the quarterfinal round of the PIAA baseball and softball playoffs today.
In the Class A baseball playoffs, Clarion will face Greensburg Central Catholic this afternoon at 2 at Slippery Rock University.
In Class 2A, Redbank Valley plays Freedom in the quarterfinal round. That game is set to begin at 11 this morning, also at Slippery Rock.
In the PIAA softball playoffs, the DuBois Central Catholic Lady Cardinals will go up against Union Area of New Castle at 2 this afternoon at Slippery Rock University.
… and, the St. Marys Lady Dutch represent District 9 in the Class 3A softball playoffs this afternoon. The quarterfinal round opponent for St. Marys is Bald Eagle Area, and they are set to play at Heindl Field in DuBois starting at 3pm.
Pittsburgh Pirates:
It was the second straight 3-0 baseball game for the Pittsburgh Pirates and Houston Astros last night, but this time the Bucs were on the winning side.
The first pitch of tonight’s Bucs-Astros series finale at PNC Park is scheduled for 6:40pm. Tune in for the pregame show on Connect FM this evening at 6:15.
Altoona Curve:
The Pittsburgh Pirates’ Double-A affiliate Altoona Curve were on the short end of another shutout in New Hampshire Wednesday night, 3-0. Game three of the Curve’s Eastern League series with the Fisher Cats is scheduled to start at 6:35 this evening.
Pittsburgh Penguins:
The Pittsburgh Penguins have a new head coach…42-year old Dan Muse. Muse has 20 years of hockey coaching experience, including five in the NHL as an assistant with the New York Rangers and Nashville Predators. Muse also has an NCAA National Championship under his coaching belt when he lead the Yale Bulldogs to the top in 2013.
