District 9 Baseball and Softball:

PIAA Baseball Playoffs –

The PIAA baseball playoffs start this week. In today’s first round, DuBois will play Bethel Park in a Class 5A matchup. DuBois Central Catholic takes on Eden Christian in Class A; and Clarion is set to battle Serra Catholic in another single A game. Redbank Valley goes up against Greenville in Class 2A; and Punxsutawney will face Elizabeth Forward in Class 4A.

Softball Playoffs –

On Friday, St. Marys fell to Sharon, 3-0, in the championship game of the Districts 9 and 10 subregional.

The PIAA softball playoffs also begin today. Out of District 9, DuBois Central Catholic will be playing Juniata Valley in Class A. In Class 2A, Cranberry takes on Chartiers-Houston, and Redbank Valley goes up against Chestnut Ridge. St. Marys will battle Mowhawk in the Class 3A playoffs, and Punxsutawney takes on Hampton in Class 4A..

Pittsburgh Pirates:

The Pittsburgh Pirates lost a three run lead and the game in the finale of a weekend series in San Diego on Sunday. The Padres topped the Bucs, 6-4.

After an off day today, the Pirates return home to take on the Houston Astros. The first pitch of Tuesday’s Bucs-Astros game at PNC Park is scheduled for 6:40pm. Tune in for the pregame show on Connect FM Tuesday evening at 6:15.

Altoona Curve:

The Pittsburgh Pirates’ Double-A affiliate Altoona Curve notched a 7-5 win over the Portland Sea Dogs yesterday. The Curve and Portland split their six-game series in Altoona. Next for the Curve is a six-game set in New Hampshire starting with Tuesday night’s game which begins at 6:05.
