District 9 Baseball and Softball:
DUBOIS CITY CLASSIC – SATURDAY
It was a DuBois High School sweep of DuBois Central Catholic in the DuBois City Classic games played on Saturday.
The baseball win for the Beavers was an 8-0 shutout over the Cardinals. Alex Sago and Lucas Delaney combined to pitch a no-hitter for DuBois. At the plate, Noah Farrell and Trey Wingard each drove in two runs for the Beavers.
In the softball matchup, a 10-run third inning powered the Lady Beavers to a 12-1 victory over DCC. Ava Baronick got the pitching win for DuBois giving up only one run on four hits while striking out three. At bat, Baronick was 2-for-3 with a double.

Penn State DuBois Baseball and Softball:
Penn State DuBois finished second in the PSUAC Baseball Championship Series. After knocking off Penn State Shenango, 9-0, on Friday, and Penn State Mont Alto, 9-4, on Saturday, DuBois lost back-to-back games to Penn State Mont Alto in the tournament championship bracket Sunday.
However, Penn State DuBois earned the championship of the PSUAC Softball Championship Series with four wins over the weekend. Penn State DuBois notched a 12-7 win over Penn State Beaver Friday; beat Penn State Schuylkill 7-4 on Saturday; and then upended Penn State Mont Alto twice, 7-3 and 4-3, to win the tournament series championship on Sunday.
Pittsburgh Pirates:
The Pittsburgh Pirates have lost seven of their last eight games. The latest was a 4-0 shutout by the San Diego Padres over the Bucs at PNC Park Sunday.
The Pirates are in St. Louis for a three-game series. Tonight’s pregame show will come on the air at 7:20. The firs pitch of the Pirates-Cardinals game tonight is scheduled for 7:45 on Connect FM.
Altoona Curve:
The Pirates’ Double-A affiliate Altoona Curve nipped Akron, 3-2, at PNG Field yesterday. The Curve split the series with the Rubber Ducks with each team winning thee games. Next for Altoona is a six-game set at Erie starting on Tuesday.
