District 9 Baseball and Softball:

PIAA Baseball Playoffs –

PIAA baseball playoffs begin on Monday. DuBois, DuBois Central Catholic, Clarion, Redbank Valley, and Punxsutawney are the District 9 teams that have advanced.

In the first round of the PIAA playoffs, DuBois will play Bethel Park, DuBois Central Catholic takes on Eden Christian; Clarion is set to battle Serra Catholic; Redbank Valley goes up against Greenville; and Punxsutawney will face Elizabeth Forward.

Softball Playoffs –

On Thursday, St. Marys earned a spot in the PIAA softball playoffs by knocking off Northwestern, 11-1, in a Class 3A, Districts 9 and 10 subregional semifinal. Taylor Gornati had two hits, scored three times and drove in three runs for the Lady Dutch. St. Marys is now scheduled to take on Sharon today to decide the championship of Districts 9 and 10.

PIAA softball playoffs begin on Monday. DuBois Central Catholic, Cranberry, St. Marys, and Punxsutawney will be the District 9 teams participating. DCC will be playing the District 6 runner-up in the first round of the playoffs.

Pittsburgh Pirates:

The Pittsburgh Pirates had Thursday off. The Bucs have won six of their last nine games as they begin a three-game weekend series in San Diego tonight. The first pitch of the Bucs-Padres game is set for 9:40. Listen for the pregame show on Connect FM tonight at 9:15.

Altoona Curve:

The Pittsburgh Pirates’ Double-A affiliate Altoona Curve fell twice in Thursday’s doubleheader with the Portland Sea Dogs. Altoona lost 3-0 in the first game, and Portland claimed the nightcap by a 9-6 tally. Game four of Altoona and Portland’s six-game Eastern League series at PNG Field starts at 6:30 tonight.
