PIAA Basketball Playoffs

GIRLS

Class A – Saturday at 1pm – District 9 champs, DuBois Central Catholic, host Bishop Canevin of District 7, the WPIAL, in the first round of the PIAA playoffs.

Class 4A – Saturday – Clearfield, the District 9 champs, host Laurel Highland of the WPIAL. The game is scheduled for 1pm.

BOYS

Class 4A – TONIGHT – D9 champion Clearfield will host District 10’s Grove City in the opening round of the PIAA playoffs. Tip off time is 7pm.

Class A – TONIGHT at 7pm – D9 runner-up Elk County Catholic will host Youngsville of District 10.

 

Penn State DuBois Basketball:

Both Penn State DuBois basketball teams will participate in the USCAA Division 2 Small College National Tournament in Buffalo, New York next week. The Penn State DuBois men’s team will play Bucks County Community College on Tuesday. The Penn State DuBois women’s team will also play their first tournament game on Tuesday, and they will face Cincinnati-Clermont.

 

District 9 Wrestlers at Hershey Tournament:

Five Tri-County area wrestlers are advancing into the quarterfinal round of the Double-A and Triple-A state wrestling championships in Hershey today. Both DuBois and Brookville have two wrestlers who won their preliminary bouts on Thursday. For the Beavers in Class 3A, it’s Mateo Gallegos at 114 pounds and Kendahl Hoare at 189. Brookville’s Cole Householder at 145 pounds and Gavin Hannah at 285 advanced in Class 2A. Also in Class 2A, Clearfield’s Brady Collins will wrestle in the quarterfinal round at 171 pounds.

Pittsburgh Pirates:

The Pittsburgh Pirates won their Thursday spring training game over Baltimore, 9-5. The Bucs smacked out 11 hits against the Orioles, including three by Endy Rodriguez. Today, the Pirates take on the Phillies in Bradenton. Tune in for Pirates spring training baseball both Saturday (vs. Atlanta) and Sunday (vs. Detroit) at 1pm on Connect FM.

 

Pittsburgh Penguins:

The Pittsburgh Penguins are fighting through another losing skid. The Pens have lost seven of their last eight games as their current western road trip rolls into Las Vegas tonight. The Penguins-Golden Knights pregame show starts at 9:30 this evening, and the opening face-off is scheduled for 10pm on Connect FM and Sunny 106.
