PIAA Basketball Playoffs

One District 9 basketball team is still alive as the PIAA playoffs head into the semifinal round. The D9 Class A boys champs, Otto-Eldred, put together a 75-68 win over Aquinas Academy of the WPIAL on Friday. The Terrors will tip off for the Class A Western Pennsylvania championship against Neighborhood Academy of the WPIAL on Friday night at 7 at the Hagerty Family Event Center in Erie.

In girls basketball, the Class 2A D9 champion Lady Bulldogs of Redbank Valley fell in their Friday night game against Penns Manor of District 6, 42-29. Redbank Valley’s season comes to an end with a record of 22-7.

 

Penn State DuBois Baseball and Softball:

It’s season-opening week for the Penn State DuBois baseball and softball teams. Tuesday, the Penn State DuBois baseball team plays its season-opener at Grove City College. On Friday, the Penn State DuBois softball team is scheduled to start the season with a double-header at Allegany College in Maryland.

Pittsburgh Pirates:

The Pittsburgh Pirates notched a pair of spring training game wins over the weekend. It was a 15-5 victory for the Bucs over Baltimore on Saturday, and then Pittsburgh downed the New York Yankees yesterday, 4-3. This afternoon, the Pirates have split-squad games with Minnesota and Detroit. The Pirates are just ten days away from the open of the regular season … in Miami on Thursday, March 27th.

 

Pittsburgh Penguins:

The Pittsburgh Penguins are on a late-season roll. The Pens’ 7-3 win over New Jersey on Saturday was their fourth win in a row. Tomorrow, the Penguins host the New York Islanders. The Pens-Isles pregame show starts at 6:30, and the opening face-off is scheduled for 7 Tuesday night on Connect FM and Sunny 106.
