PIAA Basketball Playoffs – Second Round

GIRLS

Wednesday night, the Class A District 9 champs, DuBois Central Catholic, lost to St. Joseph’s Catholic Academy of District 6 in the second round of the PIAA playoffs. The final was St. Joseph’s 51, DCC 42. The game was played at Bald Eagle Area High School. Ella Elensky topped the Lady Cardinals scoring sheet with 16 points. DuBois Central Catholic ends the season with a 25-3 record.

The Class 4A District 9 champs, Clearfield fell to the WPIAL’s Blackhawk, 58-32, in round 2 of the PIAA playoffs Wednesday at PennWest Clarion’s Tippin Gymnasium. Leading the Lady Bison offense was Sonny Diehl with 14 points.

OTHER D9 TEAMS – Second Round of PIAA Playoffs:

BOYS – Class 2A – Wednesday – Northgate 65, Clarion 37

GIRLS – Class A – Wednesday – Williamsburg 47, Otto-Eldred 36

 

Penn State DuBois Basketball:

Both Penn State DuBois basketball teams came up short in their consolation contests at the USCAA Division 2 Small College National Tournament in Buffalo, New York on Wednesday. The Penn State DuBois men’s team lost to Penn State Wilkes-Barre, 80-71. The Penn State DuBois women’s team fell to Penn State York, 54-52.

Pittsburgh Pirates:

The Pittsburgh Pirates had an off day during their spring training in Florida Wednesday. This afternoon, the Pirates are scheduled to face the Minnesota Twins. There are 12 more spring training games for the Bucs before the regular season-opener in Miami on March 27th.

 

Pittsburgh Penguins:

The Pittsburgh Penguins have pieced two straight wins together. Tonight, the Pens host St. Louis. The Penguins-Blues pregame show starts at 6:30, and the opening face-off is scheduled for 7 tonight on Connect FM and Sunny 106.
